Swirl Mark & Spiderweb Scratch Removal

Those circular scratches under the sun? Completely fixable.

Swirl marks are the fine, circular scratches that appear as a spiderweb halo around the sun or a streetlight, most visible on black and dark-coloured cars. They are the single most common paint defect we see in Kingston, and the cause is almost always the same: automatic tunnel washes with spinning brushes, or washing at home with one bucket and a gritty sponge. Each pass drags trapped dirt across the clear coat and leaves hundreds of tiny scratches that dull the reflection. Machine polishing removes them permanently, not filled or hidden with glaze, but levelled away. A 1-step polish clears most swirling on a typical daily driver; heavier cases move to a 2-step. Once corrected, the honest way to keep it that way is a proper two-bucket hand wash or a ceramic coating that makes safe washing far easier.

Our Swirl Removal Process

Stage I: Assess Under Direct Light

Swirls hide in ambient light, so we inspect with focused inspection lamps to map exactly how deep and widespread the damage is.

Stage II: Correct with the Least Aggressive Method

Clear coat is a finite resource. We start with the mildest pad and polish combination that fully clears the swirls and escalate only where needed.

Stage III: Verify and Protect

After a solvent wipe confirms the swirls are gone, we recommend a sealant or ceramic coating so the corrected finish survives the next winter.
