Older vehicles often wear single-stage paint: colour and gloss in one layer, with no clear coat over top. It behaves nothing like modern paint: it oxidizes into a chalky film, it stains your polishing pad with colour as you work, and every pass removes pigment that can never be replaced. The instinct to aggressively buff it back to life is exactly how original paint gets destroyed. Our approach is deliberately conservative. We start with the gentlest method that produces meaningful improvement, work in small sections, and check the pad constantly to gauge how much material is transferring. Sometimes the right recommendation is to stop earlier than you might expect and protect what is left with a sealant or coating. For a survivor car with its original finish, preserving 90% of the paint beats chasing 100% of the shine, and we will always tell you where that line is.
Our Preservation-First Approach
Stage I: Identify the Paint System
Single-stage, resprayed, or modern clear coat. Each demands a different method, and guessing wrong on an original finish is unrecoverable.
Stage II: Conservative Test Sections
Small, hidden areas are tested first to see how the paint responds before any large panel is touched.
Stage III: Protect What Remains
A sealant or ceramic coating seals the oxidation-prone surface so the finish stays stable through Ontario humidity and UV.
